Educate and provide the public with tools to advocate for improved medical care and disease prevention using a sex-selective lens
We believe that translation includes advocacy and educating the public in order to provide people with the tools to self-advocate for improved medical care and disease prevention.
ICON-✗’s partnerships with Jill Lesser and WomenAgainstAlzheimer’s, an experienced policy advocacy group in Washington, D.C., are working to create an awareness on a national and governmental level about the critical importance of the impact of sex differences and multi-morbidity of heart and brain disorders for health and social and economic imperatives. We aim to increase funding from National Institutes of Health to study sex differences in heart and brain together, educate the public as to the critical importance of this health challenge, and advocate for support from the public.
Recently, ICON-✗’s Director, Jill Goldstein attended the Congressional Briefing “Taking Heed of Alzheimer’s Disease: Recognizing and Responding to a Coming Crisis” on June 26th, 2022

ICON-✗’s collaborator, Dr. Ana Langer will be working with global partners in low resource countries to extend the local work of ICON-✗ regarding high risk pregnancies and their consequences for heart and brain disorders. We aim to attenuate disability and death due to these major chronic diseases that disproportionately affect women globally.
